“Through the Tunnel” Prove Yourself Paragraph

When I was ending my 8th grade year, I was trying really hard to get a phone at promotion so in order to get that I had to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Towards the end of the year I started working really hard and all i focused on was school because I needed to get my grades up. At the time I probably had 1.something and it was starting to get really difficult. On promotion day I got my report hard and had a 3.5 GPA with three a's and three b's so I got my phone and I got to go out to eat with friends. Working that hards was definitely worth it.

dragons den saturday

My favorite thing to do on Saturdays is to hang out with friends. It doesn't really mtter what I'm doing as long as I'm with people. Normally I go to someones house, the movies, the mall, sometimes a show and sometimes I just have people over. When I'm not with friends I hangout with family or sometimes go shopping. I like laid back Saturdays.

’Typhoid Fever’– Present Tense Childhood Memory.”

When I was 6 years old, my sister and I were playing in my backyard,or 'our secret spot.' My mom would always look for us and she never could find us because the the weeds in the yard grew about 4 feet high and we made a trail from the side of the yard to the middle so she couldn't see. We hid there all the time and brought snacks and played games and one day i heard this loud rumbling noise while I was in the middle. It turns out it was my uncle with the lawn mower. That day my sister and I wouldn't come out of our rooms and made it very obvious that we were upset. We had no where to hide or play anymore. It turned out that the weeds grew so fast that we had somewhere to hide out not too long after that.

’The Storyteller’ - Memorable Books from My Childhood

The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff
Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg
The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper

When I was little my favorite book was If you Give A Mouse A Cookie. It is about a mouse that starts off by getting one thing and she ends up wanting everything. This was my favorite book because my mom would read it to me before bed, and always compare me to the mouse. I would also read it in class in 2nd grade. I remember going to the library and hiding in the corner while reading it over and over.

House Parent Point of View (Janson)

As I walked into girls 8 today, I realized that everyone is in a good mood. It is sometimes overwhelming because of my new born son, but the girls make it easy to take care of him and them at the same time. They are respectful and I can trust them to be alone for a few minutes while I need to take care of some buissness. I made dinner for the girls at 5:30 and made sure to help them with their homework at at 6:30. the rest of the night we all relaxed and talked about everyday things. they all did their chores before ten and were in their rooms at 11. I then got off shift and turned in the comm logs to te office. the rest of the night was mine to relax with my husband while my son Elijah slept.

Kim the Rec Therapist

Most people expect a rec therapist to be in a suit and be all about business but not Kim, she’s always ready to be active and always has a smile on her face while doing it. The first time I met Kim I could tell by seeing the way she carried herself that she was a very respectable person. Shes full of vibrant colors and very spiritually balanced. Kim goes above and beyond meeting her job requirements.
In the cafe this summer, I was sitting at the table alone on 4th of July and Kim noticed me so she walked over and asked if she could eat with me. At that time, I realized she cared about doing more than expected. Normally staff sit with other staff, but Kim enjoyed eating with us. She didn't bother even talking about the problem, but instead talk about fun things to get my mind off of the problem. By the end of that lunch I had felt so much better and left with a great attitude.
My sister and I decided to go on a kayaking trip with Kim in August for sister day. It was in La Jolla, over by the cove where all the snorkalors go. I have always been really afraid of the ocean and I only went on the trip for my sister cause she loves the water. I was scared to go in the water so Kim told me a story to help me get over the fear and went with me and we did it together.
Once the school year started, Everyone kept bothering me to do something outside of school so I went to Kim and asked her what I could do and she told me music lessons. I told her I wanted to play the guitar so she made it happen. I was very grateful that I had someone that cared about me enough to get me not just what i needed but what I wanted to.
Kim is important to me because she keeps me balanced and before i get upset shes always there to talk to. She helps me find a better place and makes me realize that nothing is ever that serious. Kim is caring and important to me because I’ve never really had someone that cared like she does and she isn’t even family. Even if kids on this campus don’t notice it, she really does so much for us, and we wouldn’t have a lot of the things we have if it weren’t for her. When we all leave this place and move on, Kim will be someone that we remember.

Academic vocabulary week 11-health care

Americans should not have the right to free health care for many reasons. There are many ISSUES with immigrants paying taxes nowadays. It is not fair for some Americans to pay taxes and immigrants to get free health care while they aren't paying anything. There is EVIDENCE that it will never truly be free because people are paying through taxes anyways. In SUMMARY, not all Americans should have the right to free health care.

practice paragraph week 10

Doctors should be able to help critically ill patients end their lives for many reasons. Doctors are only doing euthanasia if the patient is going to die anyways and meets a certain CRITERIA of illness, so it isn't like their killing them for no reason. Euthanasia is a personal choice and you have to have CONSENT. They aren't going to do it on the patient if they don't want it so it isn't affecting personal religion or stopping them from living a longer life. People put a lot of EMPHASIS on the economy so paying for hospital bills can be a hassel. Getting euthanasia is cheaper than paying for a hospital bed when the patient is going to die either way. This drug puts people out of their misery and is only used in certain circumstances so that is why doctors should be able to do it.

Dia De Los Muertos- pick a person

I plan to construct a Dia de los Muertos altar about Marilyn Monroe. Still to this day she is considered to be the ideal women. This person is known for being beautiful inside and out and making everyone want her. This person’s appearance proves everyones theory of her being the perfect women and makes people percieve her as a sex symbol. Others think this person is perfect when she lived and even now that she is dead. This person is known for saying "diamonds are a girls bestfriend." A few items that I may include in my altar to represent this person are diamonds, alot of pink, white dress, blonde hair and more. I selected this person because I could make the altar look really vinatage and nice and because her story strikes me.

Academic vocabulary week 9

Junk food should not be banned from school vending machines. Many kids should come up with a strategy to maintain a healthy diet. In previous years, kids have complained about the healthy food in vending machines so if they like the food they will buy it and the school will make a better profit. If they dont get junk food at school, where people are sure they aren't putting harmful things in their bodies, they will just find an alternative way to buy it. There are kids that are hypogycemic, or low on blood sugar, and need the sugar every once in a while so a candy bar from a vending machine would be nice every once in a while. As you can see, the junk food in vending machines should remain for many good reasons.

Dia de los Muertos - Article Summary

Dia de los Muertos is spanish for The day of the dead. It is a day in spanish history to celebrate the dead, and connects the dead with the living. It helps the living realize life is temporary and that we should live life for today because in reality, everyone dies. Generally, Dia de los muertos is celebrated on October 31st, and sometimes on November 1st which is all saints day, it depends on the part of the world and their culture. Some poeple camp out, and they have bread and skulls/skeletons to represent the dead. Internet Safety Project - Public or Private Profile

Teenagers should set their social networking profiles to private for many safety reasons. Many old men and women go online and make fake sites pretending to be a teenager and talk to teens. It is dangerous to have people view your sites especially if they have your personal information such as phone numbers and addresses. Kids can get very hurt and bad things can happen if they dont have their profiles set to private so that is why they should.

“Two Kinds” Character Analysis Paragraph

In the story “Two Kinds” Jing-mei is a typical ignorant little girl. Her mother thinks of her as unappreciative, due to lack of interest in her culture. Jin-mei acted just the way she was supposed to, I mean if you don’t want to something then you shouldn’t have to be forced to. Jing Mei’s “Peter pan hair cut” was something that made her stand out from all the other Chinese girls. Also, she thought she could get away with playing the piano, because her teacher was blind and that made her sneaky in way. She always felt that her mother was trying to force ethnicity on her as well. So, Jing-mei is like classic person she’s stubborn, and shows no gratitude and that’s ordinary.

Academic Language Week 6 - Citizenship

Immigrants do not have the right to live in the US undocumented because they can bring a lot of unwanted trouble. They do not have to pay all of the taxes and that just SIMPLIFIES their living. They should have to be VERIFIED but someone that they have citezenship before living here. The last few years in SEQUENCE, we have seen terrorists coming to the US and letting immigrants live here would higher those chances. Therefore, immigrants should not be able to live in the US without citezenship.

"Two Kinds" Jing-Mei's Shoes Paragraph

If I were being pushed to be a piano prodigy I would probably take advangate of the opertunity. Music is beautiful and not many people have the chance to get to learn an instrument. Jing-Meis mother takes it too far in the story, if I were learning something and I was being encouraged I would be happy with the situation but definitely not if I were trying my hardest and keep being told I wasn't good enough. If I was in her situation and didn't want to play piano I would just act like I really couldn't until she gave up.

"Two Kinds" Before You Read: Something You Don't Want to Do

A time I was supposed to do something I didn't was when my mom told me to do my laundry and to have it done before she got home. I was at home in my room and the whole day she was gone I blew off my laundry and watched a marathon of Jersey Shore. When I heard the garrage door opening was when it all came back to me and I knew I was going to get a long lecture and probably get in some kind of trouble. At the time I didn't really care about doing it and I thought she would just get over it but now looking back on it, I feel really bad for not doing it that day. My mom had trusted me to do something so simple and I let her down and that's kind of sad.

A life lesson I learned the hard way is to not run up and pet a dog without them smelling you first. I was 7 and I was at the park with my mom when I saw a dog and ran over to it. Unknowingly I pet the dogs head without sticking my hand out for it to smell me and it freaked out and bit my hand. After that I always let the dog smell me and asked its owner if it was friendly or not.

Dragons den paragraph; power outage

On Thursday evening, I was half way done with straightening my hair when suddenly the power went off. It was right before a volleyball game so they started early so it didn't get too dark. We couldn't cook so johnny made dinner and brought it to our house. After study hour everyone hung out in the cafe, listened to music, danced, and just relaxed. We all found out we didnt have school the next day which made it all worth it and then we all slept in the living room. I was asleep when the power came back on and realized it the next morning.

“The Pedestrian” Before You Read: Life in 2053

In 2053, I don’t think that much will be different, but hopefully we will have more technology, transportation, and money. I will be 68 in 2053, if I live that long. I would hope to be retired and doing simple stuff like see my grandchildren and traveling. There will probably be more advanced cars, and I will probably be able to communicate through video chat or maybe even something cooler like a hologram.

“The Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” Conflicts & Surprise

In "The Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket," Tom had decided to stay home and work instead of going out to a show with his wife. The External Conflict is that he had written an idea on a yellow piece of paper and it flew out the window of his apartment in New York. As the story progressed, Tom finally made it back into the house and realized he should have gone out with his wife. The internal conflict is that he had to choose between his wife and his work. Tom had grabbed his coat and went out to find his wife once he got back inside.

“Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” My Yellow Paper Paragraph

I wouldn't really risk my life to save an item I cherish but if it came down to it my dads guitar pick would be my most important item. When I was little he played for me and my sister everynight and used the same guitar pick. I always wanted to learn how to play but never had the chance to because he passed away before I was old enough to comprehend it. Before he passed he wrote me and my sister a letter and left his guitar pick in it. I just started taking guitar lessons and I can finally use his pick but I still keep it safe by having it in a certain place in my room that no one can go through.

"Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket" Before You Read: Paralyzed by Fear

When I was 14 I had snuck out of my house and the whole time I had been a little worried about getting caught. I had came home at about 4 in the morning and my parents had been walking around looking for me. I had to sneek back into my houe without them seeing me and when they finally got home after looking for me the raged look in their faces were probably the scariest thing Ive had to experience before.

Dragons Den: Colors

The color that represents me best would be green. I think there are many types of green and the brighter the green the happier I am. Dark green can be a pretty sad color sometimes. I think that I could be represented by a lot of colors, but there are many shades of green that yell out different things to me. Green is also a mutual color and can be used for many different things like nature. I like green because it is versitile and is used for a lot.

First day of school 2011

When I woke up on my first day of Sophomore year, it didn't really feel like it was real. Summer was still in the back of my mind and I didn't want to let go. It wasn't very hard to get up, it was more hard to walk onto the school side and have to go to my first class and see all the other people sitting at their desks and think; man, here we go again. My day started off alright then around second period I found out some bad news and it sort of ruined my day, I pushed it aside and kept going though. I messed up and thought I had first lunch so I got to go to both, and towards the end of the day my anxiety caught up with me and I started to feel really sick. I went home after school and fell asleep until dinner hour then got up and ate, did my homework, and went out for a while. By the end of the day I was really tired and went to sleep pretty early. Over all, it wasn't a very great first day of school but the second was definitely better.

Summer School Plan

This summer I will pass summer school by having my housemate Aqua help me. I will be here for her when she needs help as well. I have never had to go to summer school so I think it's going to be sort of difficult for me but I'm going to try. I need to turn in all of my work on time, and try my hardest to stay on task. It is hard for me to wake up early and function but I can try.

Research Report Final Draft

                                             STD affecting teens emotions

STD’s affect teens by causing potential viral infections that will last forever, or by leading to a social stigma that makes teenagers anxious and fearful of social contact. Many people think that STD’s only affect people Physically, but they have a great emotional affect as well. Not many people know this because it is hard for teens to talk about. STD’s have many affects on young adults.
Ten percent of Americans are teenagers and less than half of them have had sexual intercourse. But the teens and young adults who have had sex get 50 percent of newly diagnosed STD’s each year. Young people are especially at risk for many sexually transmitted diseases. Teenagers account for three million cases of STDs annually. One out of every four sexually active teenagers acquires a new STD each year. One quarter of new infections of HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) are found in people under 22. Young women are at greater risk than older women for reproductive and health complications caused by STDs. This shows that it isn’t only adults engaging in sexual activity, it’s teenagers too.
decades to delay sexual activity or else protect themselves.” Abstinence isn’t doing what people think.
Most people agree that abstinence is the most effective way of preventing sexually transmitted diseases and that people should be made aware that certain activities Including sex at an early age and sex with multiple partners greatly increase the risks of contracting STDs. But many sex education authorities, such as Debra W. Haffner of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S., contend that abstinence should not be the sole emphasis of STD prevention and sex education programs. Americans should acknowledge that many teenagers are engaging in sexual activity, Haffner and others maintain. Studies have found that the average age of first intercourse in the United States is sixteen and that two-thirds of America’s high school seniors are sexually experienced prior to graduation. Haffner argues that, given the reality that many teenagers reject the option of abstinence, young people should be given comprehensive sexuality information “about their bodies, gender roles, sexual abuse, pregnancy, and STD prevention,” including the proper use of condoms to prevent diseases. She asserts that “fearbased, abstinence-only programs” that “discuss contraception only in negative terms” threaten to reverse “the significant strides American youth have made during the last two everybody thinks it is.

Sexually transmitted diseases have become a serious health problem in the United The Institute of Medicine, an arm of the National Academy of Sciences, asserts that STDs are prevalent and constitute a “hidden epidemic” because of the reluctance of Americans to “address sexual health issues in an open way.” With twelve million new cases a year, America has one of the highest rates of STD infection in the industrialized world.
closing sentence -STDs (including AIDS) cost the United States an estimated $17 billion in health care costs each year.

STD’s have many affects on young adults. As you can see, many examples have been stated in this essay. STDs are affecting so many young adults and people should make talking about it more open and okay.

Portfolio - Future

I haven't really planned out my future very much. I feel that I'm young and shouldn't really have to worry about that yet but it seems like every year, things go by so fast and people need to start planning sooner. When I'm older I know i want to do something with cosmetology. I would love to do makeup and hair for movie sets and weddings. I was in AVID for 3 years, and that was always about going to a 4 year and riding on the right path, but i learned that school isn't my thing. I've always taken my grades seriously and done what I need to do, but in the end, I don't feel that it's going to get me somewhere I'm happy. I would still have to go to school, but it will be easier because it's something I love to do and I have fun with. Living with a lot of girls has helped with learning how to do makeup and hair, its good practice and helps other people out too.

Portfolio – Greatest Accomplishment

My greatest accomplishment of freshman year would be learning how to trust. I've always had trouble trusting people because alot of time the trust is broken or kinda fades away. I'm really happy to say that I've made an amazing friend and I know I can trust her with anything. The key to all relationships and friendships to me is trust and It feels good having someone there for you and who understands you.

Portfolio - Greatest Obstacle of Freshman Year

My greatest obstacle of freshman year would be coming to San Pasqual Academy. I started out at Rancho Bernardo, happy with my friends, being able to go out on the weekends, having freedom, playing the sports i wanted to play, being able to make my own decisions and knowing i had people for me when i needed them and friends to be happy to see me when i went to school. I wouldn't say i was spoiled, because home wasn't that great but I did have alot that other poeple didn't. I was never really greatfull for all that I had and I still complained alot. After things started to get worse, I felt sort of alone and that I had nothing so I made choices that put me in really bad positions and made me feel even worse in the end. My parents finally said that things weren't going to work if I didn't change and that made me want to act out more. After Things couldn't go far more downhill, I was out of my house having to worry about where i was going to go. I came to SPA and hated having to live by other peoples rules and being told what to do and what I can and can't have. I feel that coming here has made me stronger and taught me to appreciate the little things that come around once and a while and to make the right choices because I'm only hurting myself.

Romeo & Juliet - Cause of Deaths

I think that Romeo & Juliet died as an act of fate and human error. Some people may say they died because everything was too late like the letter was taken too late, but i think that everybody being a little late is the fate part in it all. everything happens for a reason, and if Romeo & Juliet couldn't be together alive, their together dead. That was their goal in the first place, to be together.

Romeo & Juliet – Rage

The negetive consequences of rage can be saying things you regret later on, hurting yourself or others, and many other things. Yesterday in the movie, Tybalt was murdered while Romeo was raging about his friend being murdered by Tybalt. Later on Juliettes father decided she was going to marry Paris in a week. Juliette freaked out, and caused her father to say hurtfull things. Romeo was also banished because of rage. Before, if you did something bad, you would be hanged, but now you would be put in jail or have the death sentence, so they connect by being killed.

Romeo and Juliet – True or Forbidden Love

I think that Romeo & Juliette do have strong feelings towards one another, but at the same time want what they can not have. Whenever they see each other, they're so lustful and excited, but you can tell by the way that they look at each other, that there is so much passion whether it be sexual or not. I'm not exactly sure what love is yet, but it seems like if they're going through this much to be together, it must be. It's sort of a hard call on if their love is going to last or not, because now it's all romantic and spontaneous, but they really don't even know each other yet.
